Welcome to this Blended Learning course organised by the Genetic Counselling team at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). This course aims to provide you with the knowledge and first-hand experience from practising genetic counsellors (GC) on what it is like to be a GC.

The course materials will be available for you to work through from 25th September 2024, and the live session will take place on 30th October 2024.

It is important for you to work your way through all of the online pre-session materials before the live session on 30th October. You must attend the live-interactive session to complete this course.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Understand the main roles and responsibilities of genetic counsellors.
  • Understand the importance of taking a good family history.
  • Learn about the routes to becoming a genetic counsellor in the UK.
  • Begin to understand the implications that genetic testing can have, including psychosocial and ethical considerations.
